What is Unicode bold text?
Unicode bold text uses the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (U+1D400βU+1D7FF) to represent bold letters as distinct code points. Since the "boldness" is baked into the character itself, it can be pasted anywhere plain text is accepted β no rich-text editor required.
Where people use it
- Instagram and TikTok bios and captions
- LinkedIn headlines and posts (to emphasise a phrase)
- Twitter/X posts
- Facebook marketplace listings and event descriptions
- WhatsApp status and Discord names
Bold vs italic vs other styles
This page also offers bold italic and serif variants. For non-bold effects see the strikethrough and fancy text generators.
Frequently asked questions
How does the bold text generator work?
It swaps each normal letter for its "Mathematical Bold" counterpart from the Unicode standard. These are real characters, not formatting, so they survive copy-paste into apps that have no bold button.
Will bold text work in my Instagram bio?
Yes. Because the output is Unicode characters, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Facebook and most apps display it as-is in bios, captions and comments.
Is bold Unicode text bad for accessibility?
Use it sparingly. Screen readers may read bold Unicode letter-by-letter or skip them, so avoid using it for whole sentences or essential information.
Why do some characters not convert?
Only AβZ, aβz and 0β9 have bold Unicode equivalents. Punctuation, emoji and accented letters are left unchanged.
Can I use this on Discord?
Discord supports Markdown bold with **double asterisks**, but this Unicode bold also works and is the only option for your Discord display name.
