Western scale words vs the Indian system
English uses thousand, million, billion, trillion — each step is 1,000 times the last. India uses thousand, lakh, crore, arab, kharab — after the first thousand each step is 100 times the last. That mismatch is why "a billion" does not map to a single Indian word: it is 100 crore, or 1 arab.

How the money conversion works
The tool first multiplies your amount by its scale (for example 1.5 billion becomes 1,500,000,000), then multiplies by the exchange rate to get rupees, and finally divides by 1 crore (10,000,000) for the headline figure. Every other Indian unit in the table is the same rupee total divided by that unit.
Why the result is approximate
Currency rates move continuously and differ between providers, so treat the output as indicative. For contracts, remittances or accounting use the rate your bank or the RBI reference rate specifies, and enter it in the override box.
Frequently asked questions
How many crores is 1 million dollars?
One million dollars is 10 million rupees per US dollar of exchange rate, divided by one crore. At about ₹83 per dollar, $1 million ≈ ₹8.3 crore. The exact figure updates with the live rate shown on the page, which you can also override.
How much is 1 billion in crores?
Ignoring currency, 1 billion (1,000,000,000) equals 100 crore, because 1 crore is 10,000,000. One billion US dollars, at roughly ₹83 per dollar, is about 8,300 crore rupees.
What is 1 trillion dollars in rupees?
One trillion is 1,000,000,000,000. In Indian units that is 100 lakh crore, or 10,000 arab. Converted at about ₹83 per US dollar, $1 trillion is roughly ₹83 lakh crore.
What is the relationship between lakh, crore and million?
1 lakh = 100,000 = 0.1 million. 1 crore = 10,000,000 = 10 million. 1 arab = 100 crore = 1 billion. 1 lakh crore = 1 trillion. The Indian system groups digits in 2s after the first 3 (12,34,56,789).
Which exchange rate does the converter use?
It fetches the mid-market USD rate from a public exchange-rate API and caches it in your browser for six hours. If the API is unavailable it falls back to an approximate offline rate. You can type your own rate in the override box at any time.
Is anything sent to a server?
Only the exchange-rate request. Your amounts are converted entirely in your browser and never uploaded or stored.
