What is a currency converter?
A currency converter calculates how much a sum of money in one currency is worth in another, using the current exchange rate. Unlike unit conversions such as metres to feet, exchange rates are not fixed — they move constantly with supply, demand, interest rates and economic news.
Mid-market rate vs the rate you pay

Frequently asked questions
Where do the exchange rates come from?
Rates are fetched from a free public exchange-rate feed that aggregates data from central banks and market sources, refreshed once per day. If the feed is unreachable, the tool falls back to recent approximate rates so it still works.
Are these the rates my bank will give me?
No. These are indicative mid-market rates — the midpoint between the buy and sell price. Banks, card networks and money-transfer services add a margin and fees, so your actual rate will be slightly worse.
How often are the rates updated?
The underlying feed updates once every 24 hours. Your browser caches the rates for up to 6 hours; click 'Refresh rates' to force a new fetch.
Does this work offline?
Partly. If you have used the converter before, cached rates are reused. With no cache and no connection, it uses a built-in fallback table of approximate rates and shows a warning.
Which currencies are supported?
Over 35 of the most-traded currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, CAD, CHF, CNY, INR, SGD, AED, BRL, ZAR and more.
Is my data sent anywhere?
Only a request for the public rate table is made. The amounts and currencies you choose are processed entirely in your browser.
