The metric unit of volume is the liter (1 L = 1 dm³ = 1,000 cm³). US customary and imperial systems use gallons, quarts, pints, cups and fluid ounces — and the US and imperial versions of each are not equal.

One US liquid gallon equals 3.785411784 liters. The imperial (UK) gallon is larger at 4.54609 liters, so always check which gallon a recipe or spec means.
How many milliliters are in a cup?
A US customary cup is 236.588 mL. A US 'legal' cup used on nutrition labels is 240 mL, and a metric cup is 250 mL. This converter uses the US customary cup.
What is the difference between US and imperial fluid ounces?
A US fluid ounce is 29.5735 mL; an imperial fluid ounce is 28.4131 mL. The imperial pint has 20 fl oz while the US pint has 16, so an imperial pint is about 20% larger.
How do I convert cubic meters to liters?
Multiply cubic meters by 1,000 — one cubic meter is exactly 1,000 liters. One liter is one cubic decimeter (a 10 cm cube).
Are dry and liquid measures the same?
For water-like liquids this converter's volume units are fine. US dry pints and quarts are different (larger) units and are not covered here.
